AIA Service

AIA

Service to your profession means different things to each of us, as it should. My “active

service” to AIA culminated after 25 years, with my elevation to AIA Georgia President. I

look back with enormous pride on this achievement! I believe we all (each and every one

of us) make our planet, particularly the built environment, a better place for our children

and grandchildren. To contribute my strengths towards this endeavor is my incredible

pleasure.

After 5 years away from a leadership role, I have now been asked to fill a vacant position

on the AIA GA Board.  I am very excited to be back and directly involved with AIA GA.

I am anxious for the opportunity to collaborate with the nationwide network of talented

colleagues, many of whom have become friends.

I continue in service to my community. After 6 years on the Board of the Ogeechee

RiverKeeper, I now head their Paddling Outreach program. I enjoy singing at church with

the choir and love the ministry of music. I am an Adjunct Professor of Architecture at the

Savannah College of Art and Design, where I enjoy guiding and mentoring young

architectural students.GC Bronze Award photo 2010

My 30 years of designing distinctive homes continues. I love working with my clients in

this beautiful, southeastern, coastal environment. My firm is smaller now, but I enjoy

being back on the design/drafting table and am challenged by having to wear more than

one hat.

I now have my first grandchild, who is already 17 months old!  She has a little brother on

the way. For the first time in my professional life, I want to slow down a bit. I want to

spend more time enjoying little Isabelle Katherine, and exploring this new stage of our

family life with my wife of 39 years, Sally.

I count myself among the very lucky! A big part of my success is the result of my

involvement in service to my profession through AIA leadership.  In 1989, I won my first

Design Award.  It was THAT feeling that really sparked my commitment to serve and

give back to AIA.

I am very thankful!  Love for what I do has served me well. I believe these fruits can best

be enjoyed when picked just before they ripen.
